Swiss Vice president Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf on what to expect from political leadership

The Vice President of Switzerland will close the 41st St. Gallen Symposium with an assessment of political leadership which, in the wake of recent global political and economic crises, has been put in the spotlight time and time again.

Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf: Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf (born in 1956) has been Vice President of the Swiss Federal Council since 2011. Having been Head of the Finance and Military Department of the Canton Grisons for eight years, she was elected Federal Councillor in 2007, leading the Federal Department of Justice and Police. In November 2010, Widmer-Schlumpf became Head of the Federal Department of Finance.

Furthermore, she was a member of the Bank Council of the Swiss National Bank, President of the Conference of Cantonal Finance Directors and was elected Swiss personality of the year 2008 by the Swiss population. Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf graduated in law and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Zurich.
