Medical marijuana

The medical marijuana conscience vote in parliament raises an important question like all the conscience votes before it. Why is the conscience of a member of parliament more important than my conscience?

The conscious vote for MP`s is under question here as all the Nats block voted against the use of marijuana use for medical reasons even though it is a well recognized medicine with a long history of helping with a variety of ailments.
This is in spite of various govt inquiries and even Medsafe recommending changes to allow use when it is supported by the doctor.
A recent poll on this subject got 63% support so our cold heartless govt is way out of touch with the compassionate people of this country who do not want to see people suffer needlessly as collateral damage in this already lost "war on drugs" which is really a state war on it`s citizens, many of them unwell.
Shame on the Nats for their disgraceful domineering behaviour

The National party cannot be trusted,
after receiving a recent e-mail from Auckland Central MP Niki Kaye it was quite clear she has different views on the matter than those of her boss or bosses, and same again for the Waitakere City MP Paula Bennet. After a recent phone call to Miss Bennets electorate office i was told that they were cannabis friendly there.
seems more like a dictatorship than a democracy, and finally who the hell are these MP's to tell me what medicine is right for me? how many of our sitting members in parliament actually hold a doctorate in medicine and can overide my doctors and specialists reccommendations and remedies.

The Green Party's policy to treat all drugs, including alcohol, as a health matter is rational. So it isn't surprising that all their members voted in favour of the medical use of marijuana.
[In parentheses I have to contrast how irrational their attitude is to nuclear power and genetic engineering!]
But, of course, this is an issue that we, the people, have the sole right to decide. If we were a democracy we would call for a referendum. During the lead up to the vote we would all receive the information from both sides of the argument and we would make up our collective mind in the adult and civilized way that the Swiss have been doing for the past 150 years.
But no, for the present we have to put up with that meaningless sample of 0.005% of the electorate that happens to sit in that thing that they call their "parliament".
